Sara Amalia Brooks is my name (Sarita is my nickname). I was named after an artist named Amalia, a close friend to my father.
My style is that of bright colors with lots of texture.
My favorite artists are Frida Kahlo (for her bright colors) and Vangogh (for his dramatic texture)
I was born in Guatemala City
My origins are from Belize, China, Spain and Guatemala
I came to the U.S when I was 3 years old. I am tri-lingual (English, Spanish and French).
I believe I was born an artist, as a child I would get in trouble for painting the walls of my mothers apartment. My mother tells me stories about how I once used my diaper (2 years old) to paint a wall, lol!
In 2005 I graduated Northern Arizona University with a B.A degree in Psychology with a minor in Studio Art. In my senior year at NAU I posed as an art model for an anotomy art class. It was a very interesting experience because I felt vulnerable and powerful at the same time.
I then took some individual classes at Phoenix College where I submited a painting to the Student Art Gallery and won the Erick Fischl Vanguard Award in 2006
Currently I am doing a Masters in Professional Counseling with a consentration in Expressive Art Therapy.
