Heading for the Blue - The Pangong Lake Collection
Pangong Tso (or Pangong Lake; Tso: Ladakhi for lake) is a lake in the Himalayas situated at a height of about 4,250 m (13,900 ft). It is 134 km (83.3 mi) long and extends from India to China. Two thirds of the length of this lake lies in China. The lake is 5 km (3 mi) wide at its broadest point. In winter, the lake surface freezes completely despite being salt water. The army patrol jeeps actually drive on the frozen lake during the winter months !! The ride to Pangong Lake is almost like embarking on some sort of treasure hunt...except of course that there is only one road and you can never lose your way! What you do lose once in a while is your breath. Traverse high altitudes, rough terrain and roads, the Chang La pass over 5000m high...over a hundred kilometers of mind-blowing landscapes...and then suddenly in the middle of these golden mountains lays a sight to behold...a devastating shade of blue...
