Bridges

Bridges are built to span a river, waterway, gorge, valley, railway, road or other obstacle and may carry pedestrians, a road, railway or in the case of an aqueduct, a waterway. There are several basic types of design and these then have many other variations, with each one being unique. Some bridges have stood for hundreds of years. I greatly admire the achievements of the engineers who design and build bridges and viaducts. These fascinating structures provide us with vital communication links, and they also have to withstand the forces of nature. This gallery is to show a few of the many interesting and unusual bridges that I have photographed.
