Dear Collector,
My paintings are created at the location. Sometimes I hike in or paddle to a painting spot . As you can tell, I look for peaceful scenes with contrasting colors or a scene that has interesting lighting. I work outdoors and sometimes complete the paintings on location or take them back to the studio for some finishing touches. It is not unusual for me to create other paintings of the same subjects originating from the initial outdoor work. This scene has been revisited by me a number of times. I know now why Monet kept going back to the hay fields. I am proud of some of the bold brush strokes near the end of the paintings . The final textured strokes add vitality and add to the overall energy of the painting. Often times I paint from the side of the road, sometimes poeople stop to watch as I am working. I believe by painting from nature I am creating a true work of art not a copy of a photograph. I try to capture an emotion that compels the viewer to evaluate the world around him. I work in various sizes , depending on where I am and what time will allow.
My paintings have been collected and sold in art galleries , museums ,home furnishing stores, mail order companies and have been featured on calendars and note cards nationwide. The internet has enabled me to sell my work directly to the consumer at a reduced final cost.
Thanks for stopping by,
Robert Stump
