The inspiration for my artwork and literature comes from my visions and observations of nature, people, and the Word of God. I chose to paint from a combination of my imagination, reference materials and models.
Realistic and imaginative painting, for me, is the process of immersion that involves contemplation, and embracing beauty. I find commissioned work more challenging as my goal is to achieve a likeness and to strive to satisfy the expectation of the client. The process involves both frustration, and deliberation.
The subjects of my artwork vary from biblical themes, ethnic and racial themes, to themes of historical appreciation. My painting involve a dynamic interaction of invention and the discipline of pushing the limits of my skill and creativity in a tenacious quest for illusive truth. It is about discovery and it is about connecting people to life.
I need to feel that I am, “in the presence of God”, while in the act of painting. I prefer to have music playing while painting, the music gets me energized and into the act of painting with spiritual energy. Painting with music soothes my spirit and without total peace I cannot paint.
