Raised in Southern Maryland, Rebecca has an innate love of the rural environment, and her macro and landscape photography brings that emotion to life.   Living within a stone's throw of the Chesapeake Bay has allowed Rebecca to add intimate views of Calvert County's natural resources to her portfolio, along with her vision of the impermanence of life, the beautiful rust which transforms nature and object alike.Satisfaction Guaranteed!Questions or comments?   Images may be licensed.   Please use email link above for inquiry.©2011-2022 Rebecca A.   Sherman.   All...more

Swamp

"Yes, though you may think me perverse, if it were proposed to me to dwell in the neighborhood of the most beautiful garden that ever human art contrived, or else of a Dismal Swamp, I should certainly decide for the swamp. . . When I would recreate myself, I seek the darkest wood, the thickest and most interminable and, to the citizen, most dismal, swamp. I enter a swamp as a sacred place, a sanctum sanctorum. There is the strength, the marrow, of Nature." Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862), U.S. philosopher, author, naturalist. "Walking" (1862), in The Writings of Henry David Thoreau, vol. 5, p. 228, Houghton Mifflin (1906).
