Churchville, PA - United States
Rae Chichilnitsky - Fine Artist
Born in the former USSR, where I majored in music (Masters degree in Musicology) and freelanced as an illustrator. Since 1976 i live in the US. For a while, I’ve continued my artistic pursuits doing freelance illustration for periodical publications, but that wasn’t a stable source of income. In the early 80s, I’ve decided to change my profession, enrolled in a computer school and after graduation joined the corporate world. There (mostly on Wall St) I’ve worked for over 20 years, holding a number of technical and management positions in application programming, system analysis and IT audit.
My need to creatively express myself has never left me however, and I’ve always continued with my artwork part-time, for myself, my friends and as a freelancer. In 2005 I’ve relocated to PA and now reside with my family in Churchville (Bucks Co.). I’m married, have a grown-up (also married) son and a wonderful, 3 years old granddaughter.
I’m exhibiting and selling my paintings (mostly, online). Periodically, I’m doing some (mostly, graphics and illustration) work on commission. i'm also interested in children book illustration and currently workinf on my portfolio submissions. I also like to write and work as a freelance writer for various local publications (both, Russian and English) and clients (articles, web content and text translation), as well as I do some creative writing.
As an artist, I’m enjoying a complete artistic freedom that brings to my work the whole gamut of concepts, moods, emotions and fantasies. My work covers a wide range of subjects (from deeply philosophical to humorous, from the ones dedicated to a purpose to the ones with no purpose other than simple decorative pleasure) and forces the individual to pause and wonder just how serious one should take one self. Some of this work was created with children in mind, while other is more adult-oriented. Artistically, I’m very versatile (if not to say, eclectic) and always work from my imagination.
I'm a member of the Society of Children Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and an artwork contributor on www. literacyhead.com (a unique e-publication that promotes literacy through use of visual art among children)
