It would be nice to have fame and fortune from my art, but that is not why I create. It is simply 'my calling in life'. It is a gift from a higher power…it is 'my light'.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
Our Deepest Fear
from 'A Return To Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles' Marianne Williamson
As a young child, I grew up with a camera and a box of paints as my prized possessions, and would spend hours in my room creating art. My favorite things to do throughout my life have been taking pictures and painting. Although my photography can stand on its own merit, I often use my camera as a tool in the process of developing ideas for my watercolor and oil paintings.
I’ve always been fascinated with surrealism and symbolism in art and often try to work Native American symbolism into a painting. I’m intrigued by their culture and their belief that everything is sacred on this earth and that a lesson can be found in all things and experiences. I believe we all should strive to be in touch with our spirituality and the simple gifts that surround us on our journey through life.
With that said, I really don’t like to box myself into a certain style of painting. I may lean toward a more conventional style, depending on the subject matter, and try to convey a metaphor in the painting by what I ultimately name it. My hope is that people relate in some way to my work, and find strength in the knowing, that though we are all unique, we are not all so different and we truly are all connected.
I was born and raised in Massachusetts and now live on Aquidneck Island, where I find myself surrounded by the inspirational beauty of the ocean. I work part time and take on commissions for paintings and graphic design work whenever I can.
Although, mostly self-taught, I studied with Larry Cron, known for his watercolors and graphic design work in Framingham, MA, and attended Worcester Art Museum and Worcester State College studying Fine Art, Graphic Design and Photography.
I have participated in National and International Juried Art Exhibitions and Competitions throughout the years and have picked up a few awards along the way. I have sold work in both the USA and Europe.
In 2010 I had my first Solo Art exhibition “Revelation: One Woman’s Journey” at the Community College of Rhode Island’s Flanagan Campus Art Gallery. The show consisted of about 50 pieces, watercolors, oils, pen & Ink, photography, and graphic design.
In 2012 I donated a 24'X18' oil on linen painting I created of the Patriot Gard Riders to The American Legion Post 18 to raffle off to raise money for the USA Battle Buddies. (updates to follow - raffle is on 05/19/12)
I presently have a watercolor exhibition going on at the Newport Public Library in Newport, RI until the end of May. The exhibit features 21 watercolor paintings from 2008 to 2011.
