I was born in Indiana, moved to California when I was six, and when I was eleven we moved to Arizona where I reside today. After graduating from Tucson High School I volunteered for the Navy which took me to Guam , the Philippines, and Viet Nam twice. I had no formal art training till I was 29 years old. I served a two year apprenticeship with artist Ken Ingalls working at his studio in trade for painting classes. I then attended Glendale College, as fine arts major, where I met Evelyn Miners who encouraged me to experiment with techniques and kindled in me a love of acrylic painting. I dropped out of College during my second year after attending 8 funerals of my closest friends and family. Sometime later I met Pete Nicastro who helped broaden my understanding of the acrylic medium and expanded my use of resources. Pete has greatly influenced the way I have approached much of my art work.
I received a fellowship from the Future Artist foundation, allowing me studio space for a year with ten other artists. I was also given studio space for another year from the Master’s Gallery and Study. I was accepted in a show sponsored by the City of Phoenix entitled Hoop-N-Holler, where my work was displayed at the Phoenix International Airport for five months. My work has also been shown in these Arizona galleries: Care Free Gallery, Vizual’s Gallery, The Master’s Gallery and Study, The Future Artists Foundation, Belows, Mill’s End, 660 Building, Central Plaza, Portlands, Lux Café, and I will be showing at the Coffee Buzz on the 26th of June. My work has been published in: Phoenix Home & Garden, The Ahwatukee Magazine, The College Times, and the Arizona Republic. My works are part of public and private collections in Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Indiana, Florida, and Holland. To name a few: Sister Sledge, B & H Properties, Sona Data Corp., and American Performance Distributors.
