Born in 1963 and raised in Lisbon, Ohio, Michelle Joseph-Long has spent the majority of her life living in her home town of Lisbon. Only recently, she moved to Austintown, Ohio, a short 30 minute drive North of her home town. She raised her daughter, supporting her through college, before really concentrating her efforts on pursuing her passion for photography and fine art.
Her interest in photography goes back many years. From her first 110 point-and-shoot camera at age ten, she learned to love capturing images on film. As a young adult, her interest in still photography continued while friends and family moved on to video. “There just wasn't anything better than being able to browse through a photo album, step back in time and allow my mind to imagine the event captured in each picture.” She has never lost that fascination with printed images.
Michelle is considered a self-taught photographer with no formal college education in the subject. Her knowledge was gained through books, workshops, talking to other photographers, and trial and error. She never really considered her photography as anything more than a personal accomplishment and enjoyment until she was encouraged to enter a few images in a juried art exhibit. Only then did she realize that she had a talent for capturing images that others found to be beautiful fine art.
Michelle has also worked as a portrait and wedding photographer. In 2010, she expanded her fine art portfolio through the use of the digital darkroom, digital painting, and the acrylic medium. Although photography will always be her first love, she continues to learn and expand her portfolio through the use of other art mediums.
