I have enjoyed drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. At school it was my favorite subject and I left school with an shining report.
After school I enrolled at college where I studied an 'all rounder', Art Foundation course; which I thoroughly enjoyed, because there were so many different subjects to choose from, including: Drawing, Painting, Screen Printing, Stained Glass, Fashion & Textiles, Surface Pattern Design, Ceramics, 3D Design & Art History.
After my Foundation course, I enrolled on a BTEC National Diploma in Fashion, Textiles & Surface Pattern Design.
I have since worked in the world of Retail, Visual Merchandising, Fashion Design, Manufacturing. and Procurement and Supply Chain. Then in 2010 I returned to Retail work, where I can work with the general public, which is great for me, as it is in my nature to help people.
I currently have my dream job as the Manageress of Granthams Art Discount in Preston www.artdiscount.co.uk. It is my very own 'Aladdins Cave' of paints and other fantastic Art materials. It is only in recent years that I decided to take my Artwork to the next level. My job has helped me make this decision to move from a hobbyist, to a part time Artist.
I am not really inspired by any one particular Artists' work as a whole, I am more drawn to color, texture and how a painting makes me feel.
I enjoy painting abstracts, which for me, is basically just experimenting and playing with color using various different mediums (mainly watercolor and acrylic paints) I love watching how the paints interact with each other.
I wouldn't necessarily say I have a 'style' as such; however, I am very 'young at heart' and this may be why I also enjoy painting childrens' illustrations. I love how easy it is to become lost in my work and how quickly time passes while I'm painting.
I also paint Pet Portraits and other animals, which I have received various commissions for Dogs & Cats.
When I am not painting, I love to make various different crafts......I never seem to switch off.....If you would like to see a few of my favorite things....why not pop over to my ETSY shop: www.etsy.com/uk/shop/melOnArtDesign
I hope you find my work interesting and I sincerely thank you for taking the time to visit. Feel free to contact me directly with any comments or questions you may have.
