WV Capitol

President Abraham Lincoln, declared West Virginia as a state, the only state to be designated by a Presidential Proclamation. The seat of West Virginia's Capitol changed hands between the cities of Wheeling, and Charleston several times. Finally In 1875, an election was held and Charleston was voted to be the permanent location. The capitol was destroyed by fire twice, once in 1921, and then again in 1927. The first gilding of gold to the dome, was completed in February 1932.
