ARTIST STATEMENT
Marie enjoys filling her paintings with feminine subjects. Her figurative works are filled
with feminine mystique and her florals are lush and deeply colored. In each painting she tries
to capture one reflective moment, punctuated with symbolic elements that portray a powerful
message; a place where the viewer can find a connecting emotional bond.
Marie always knew she would become an artist. While other girls were playing house, her
artistic French mother taught her to paint. As a teenager, her best friends were always pencils
and paint. Although she considers herself self-taught, she studied fine arts and art history at
Montana colleges, and later studied printmaking at Gonzaga University.
Marie returned to serious oil painting in 2003 after a twenty year respite, in which she
raised her children and explored watercolor, colored pencil and pastel. Since then her work
has evolved from simple, colorful statements into meaningful explorations of personal
subjects.
