I graduated from Southwest Missouri State University (now called Missouri State University) in Springfield, Missouri with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 1988. After working for several years in the Graphic Design and Advertising business (while raising two boys and two dogs), I finally have the opportunity to do what I love… creating art from my studio in my home.
I have always loved drawing, since I was a young child and got my first box of crayons. Over the years, when time would allow (between the jobs and the kids), I have drawn portraits for friends and acquaintances, working mainly in colored pencils. While I try to represent my subjects realistically, the most important part is capturing the personality and spirit of each subject. By layering colors I try to achieve an almost painterly effect, while leaving the strokes of the drawing visible. Although the layering of colors can take some time, I feel this is what gives each drawing its depth and artistic expression, making each portrait a unique piece of art.
I have been commissioned to do several pet portraits, a few people portraits, and have finally begun to work on some original pieces with florals, wildlife and Nature. I am looking forward to growing as an artist and becoming a part of the worldwide artistic community with so many talented artists!
