In the summer of 2011, Laura spent 3 months living in Toronto at Ronald McDonald House while her 13 year old daughter Celeste underwent chemotherapy to treat a rare form of brain tumour - Pineoblastoma. During that time Laura painted 24 paintings which were being exhibited in galleries in Southern Ontario from December 2011 through to February 2012 when the pieces were lost in a tragic fire. Laura had plans to auction the originals to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House, Toronto Sick Kids Hospital and for another young cancer survivor Hayley, who has the same diagnosis as Celeste and lives in New Jersey. The Exhibit 'Two Girls, One Prayer' originally opened December 2nd 2011 at the QB Gallery in Thorold, Ontario.
A short video showcasing 23 of the paintings can be viewed here http://animoto.com/play/lCS6T0IDUBdYNORIqUyp4Q
Now plans are being made to recreate the exhibit out of the ashes just as a phoenix is reborn from out of the fire and ashes. The new exhibit and auction will include new pieces by Laura Lane, reproduction prints of the paintings destroyed in the fire, as well as newly created pieces donated by both local and international artists. To be included in this new exhibit please contact Laura directly or Catharine Mellor at the QB Gallery, Thorold, Ontario 905-324-8933. Pieces will need to be ready for the auction by July 2012.
Laura now resides with her family in the Niagara Region of Ontario Canada.
