Kathryn M Bennett - Fine Artist
I am Kathryn M. Bennett. I have always loved art. In high school, I took every art class they offered. It may have taken a few years to 'kick in,' but about six years ago it did just that and I have been an artist ever since. I love creating and I love learning. I am an art student in a university and will have a Bachelor of Arts degree in a few months. I have had artwork shown in local galleries, student shows, and county and state fairs.

I had a few images I made with a scanner on this site, but moved them to http://kmbennettart.deviantart.com/
My Artist Statement:
Art has a voice. It speaks to me, for me and through me.
Art speaks to me. It gives me visions and ideas of paintings and projects so that I can create them. When I begin a work, I am able to see in my mind just exactly how I want the piece to look when it is finished and I am usually pleased with the results. Sometimes I create an image right away and other times I spend weeks thinking about my approach.
Art speaks for me, showing others what I think and how I feel. As I create, I have a desire that people see my work as “postcards” or “messages”. When I paint or draw a portrait, I want the viewer to sense they are looking into the eyes of someone's soul.
Art speaks through me. It enables me to become part of the larger collective process. When I to see the works of fellow artists I am inspired to try something new. When artists share their work and encourage each other, something special happens. Together, we become more than the sum of us and we become “Art.'
I try to put a message of “life” into my art. I find it satisfying to take a moment in time and create it on a surface to share with others. Every time I apply paint to canvas or ink to paper, I am amazed that material in a tube can be so transformed on a surface and become more than just a grouping of art supplies. It gains a life of its own.
My love of illustration has inspired me to research and read tales of folklore and mythology from various cultures. From these, there is an endless source of subjects for my painting, drawing and printmaking.
When art speaks to me, I not only hear it... I feel it.
