Julie Fischer - Fine Artist
I am a senior in college finishing up my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at UW-River Falls. My major studio is painting and my minor studio is fibers, but I do enjoy digital photography as well.
My most prevalent goal when I create my artwork is to provoke some sort of reaction from the viewer; whether it is out of disgust, amazement, admiration, or confusement, but I think that's a goal most other artists have (or SHOULD have) as welI. It's challenging to keep a viewer's attention span long enough for them to create an opinion or understanding of a piece of artwork. I believe for art to truly affect someone's life you must begin by influencing their emotions; which will eventually open the doors for understanding of deeper thoughts and ideas.
The primary subjects I have been focused on within the past two years have been surrealistic people and portraits, which include distorting proportions, simplifying content, blind-contour studies, and mostly developing surrealistic interpretations of true-life experiences and events.
Although I am a mildly experienced, young artist, I feel the best advice I can give to any fellow aspiring, struggling artists is to create with confidence and accept your weaknesses. When you overcome these two things, you will be able to develop your own personal style; which is what being an artist is all about. Avoid cliche', first instinct ideas, take it a step or two further and truly use your head to develop versatile content.
'Artwork is never finished, only abandoned.'
