I started decorative painting about fifteen years ago. I painted on anything and everything; decorative boxes, shelves, hats, clothing, candles, glass, walls, ceiling fans… (if the paint stuck to it, I painted it!) Later I tried my hand at oils on canvas. I enjoyed it, but it didn’t suit me entirely. So I then tried acrylics on canvas. That worked a little better, but I still was not satisfied with my artwork.
A few years ago I took a class through the local adult school for beginning watercolors. I was hooked! I fell in love with them!
The transparency of the paints is just wonderful, and watching the paint mix and flow across the wet paper is just plain fun! I enjoy painting florals and waterscapes, and have recently begun doing pet portraits. But what I love the most is painting wild animals, birds, and insects. I like taking a subject that is considered to be “ugly” or “creepy”, and giving it new (and more colorful) life. It's a lot of fun working on a painting when my subject is looking back at me!
