Watercolors By Hazel, Artist - Hazel Stitt
A native of Texas, Hazel had been a resident of northern California since 1945, living many years in Marin County at Belvedere and Ross. She lived full time at the Sea Ranch for the past 25 years and had 2 one-man shows at the Sea Ranch Lodge. My beloved mother Hazel passed away in November 2012. The collection of her paintings is offered to all in her honor.
Prior to coming to northern California, she studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago and the Art Institute of Chicago . She was employed as a fashion artist in Chicago after graduation, and continued in the commercial field in San Francisco, Sacramento , and Fresno. She continued studies in California with watercolor painters including George Post and Richard Yip. Other studies included print making at the College of Marin and the University of California Extension in San Francisco.
For over fifteen years she represented the late Richard Yip in Marin county organizing his annual workshops.
The artist has been an exhibitor and award winner in many group shows throughout northern California, Nevada, and Texas. The artist has had many one-man shows.
Her most outstanding award was the Medal of Honor ( Best in Show ) in 1975 at the Richard Yip show in San Francisco. Her painting was selected by Juror Alexander Nepote from over nine hundred paintings in the show.
She has done many personalized drawings for homeowners in Marin and at the Sea Ranch. The original drawing was used to make note cards. These are called H-NOTES.
Her paintings are in many private collections in the Western States, the East Coast, Mexico , and the Virgin Islands.
She has contributed her works to many charitable functions including the St. Stephen’s Guild Annual House Tour in Belvedere-Tiburon, The Driftwood Unit of Marin Foundation, KQED Auction, Bay Area Schools including San Domenico and Ross.
She was a member of the Gualala Arts, a Signature Member of the Marin Society of Artists. She was also a member in the San Francisco Women Artists, Marin County Watercolor Association and the Mendocino Art Association.
We are very pleased to be able to offer to the art world a select collection of many Giclee’s of Hazel Stitt’s many paintings. In the Gallery, you will find collections from around the world as well as northern California and San Francisco.
The original paintings are not for sale at this time. However, inquiries to acquire an original will be accepted by the watercolorsbyhazel.com web site.
