Stop by Qahua in the Claridge House (Adams and N Main), grab a cup of coffee
and enjoy several of my latest orgastracts. And, while you are there, take a peek
at the display case in the Claridge House entrance.
I think...in ink...working with inks and watery-fluid acrylics on paper and artboards.
My orgastracts evolve organically. The painting is an unfolding mystery.
I begin thinking only color and composition, then go from there.
Sometimes I am ecstatic over the outcome. Others, well...more tearings for future collages!
Recently, I was honored with a 3-month show in the 'Artist Spotlight' initiative at Eighty3 in
the historic Madison Hotel. Before that, my show, 'To Think...In Ink' at Gallery Fifty Six in Memphis,
was a vivid burst of color and my paintings brightened the upstairs loft for several monthly shows at
Harrington Brown Gallery in east Memphis. Sadly, this gallery recently closed.
'Indianola Nights' was on display for my annual show at Playhouse on the Square.
I now have a working studio at Marshall Arts (one block from Sun Studios!), so more room for me to
create and make a wonderful mess. My studio is open to the public at our twice
yearly Marshall Arts Open Studio events (but you are welcome to stop in anytime).
In my past, I've taken a number of courses at Memphis College of Art, painted for a decade with artist Persi Johnson, and attended many workshops around the country led by nationally acclaimed artists.
Over the years, I've enjoyed having solo shows and gallery representation not only here in Memphis, but also in Portland (OR), Lawrence (KS), and Oxford (MS), in addition to an eye-opening stint as a fine art gallery curator.
