... Jan Phillips grew up in Chicago Heights, Illinois. As a young child she regularly visited the breathtaking sand dunes with her family. This vacation spot became the original inspiration for her future work. She moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1965 where she studied at the Minnetonka and Bloomington Art centers in a variety of mediums. Her favorite became oils on canvas.
