I am a female artist from Utah. I was raised at the foot of some of the most beautiful mountains in the world. I try to bring that same beauty to life in each of my creations.
I am the oldest of 7 children and have 4 of my own. I am also now the grandmother of 5 grandsons and 1 granddaughter. While growing up I often would retreat to my room after the younger children were tucked into bed. I would draw and paint for hours, sometimes until 3:00 or 4:00 a.m.
I began private art lessons at age 12, and never stopped learning. I found that I could learn by studying nature, the colors nature uses and how nature used textures.
I studied Fine Arts in High School and College, earning many awards, and honors. Artist of the Year, Sterling Scholar, a full Scholarship to 3 Universities.
I've been a teacher of K-12 and have taught private lessons. I studied and earned awards in Batik, Painting, Drawing.
While my children were little I learned how to make Ice Spear Fishing Decoys. I became known for my Bright, Bold, colors and the extra small or extra large decoys I could make. I also made unusual types of fish. These decoys can be found under the name JRCarMax Decoys. I also have been a builder of furniture, walking sticks and canes using that same name.
Why JRCarMax? Because my children's names are Jake, Ross, Carly and Max and I wanted them to know although I maybe busy I was always thinking of them.
I have survived many things in this life, illness' that consumed too many years. Heartache and loss that I thought would never end, only to find they made me stronger. Life has its ups and downs, but somethings never change, the wonder, the love, the beauty of life itself.
I have enjoyed success as an artist, I've won awards, my work has been featured in and on the cover of international magazines; but I get the most joy out of sharing my art with new collectors.
Art is my passion, I love everything about it. I love the feel of the medium I'm working with, I love the feeling when I put gloss on a finished piece and the colors become even Bolder.
I love the thrill of bringing that passion to life, and the joy of sharing it with others. Growing up I knew I was an artist. Art is a way of life, a way of living. Creating and sharing that passion, that gift with others is the most amazing life I could ever imagine.
