I have enjoyed image-making for as long as I can remember - everything from wide angle landscapes to closeups of the smallest wildlife. My work has exhibited in fine art galleries and the William Penn (PA State) Museum, and won awards at the state and local level.
Photography inspires me for several reasons. First, I create something that is understood universally. There are over 6,000 spoken languages on planet Earth, but a simple picture can speak a thousand words with no lost translations. Anyone who views a photograph may be moved, offended or indifferent, but we have connected.
Second, the camera, which narrows the field of vision, has actually expanded my vision and awareness. It persuades me to slow down and pay attention to the brilliance of nature and life's many treasures. I capture moments in time and document pieces of my world I might otherwise never see.
Finally, image-making leaves our legacy of how we see the world. I want to make and leave marks for myself, and make and leave marks for those who follow. An image I capture today may still be on my son's or daughter's wall 20 years after one of their kids goes off to college. I like that.
