Thank you for taking the time to stop by my page to look at my work!
*** NOTE TO ALL VISITORS TO MY PAGE *** If you are here looking through my artwork, it might be helpful for you to click on the 'Galleries' tab. If you do that you will see smaller groups that I have organized my pieces into. You may find that less overwhelming than seeing everything all together on one page if you are looking for something in a specific style or subject.
I am a writer and a closet artist living in the midwest. In art I like to work with photographs and oil paint mostly, and other mediums on occasion.
I think the most important thing to do, besides work on being healthy, is to create things that have a quality of realness- things that can be shared with other humans that express deep ranges of feelings and beauty. Whether it is with writing or painting, I try to be creative in some form daily. I feel this makes the days I live meaningful. As a child, as with most all children, I had a very strong and natural creative desire that was constant. As an adult I have expanded my visions beyond non-toxic paint, crayons, cardboard paper, and blank envelopes, but the point is to keep the creative child inside alive, because that is the state of mind which holds our essence.
As for finished work, my goal is to end up with something that makes sense to the eye, flows smoothly, and keeps my own interest for at least a noticeable moment every time I look at it. When I have accomplished that, there is a good chance that others are going to enjoy and be captivated by the piece I have created.
With that said, I love painting and being creative. To me it seems to be one of the most fruitful ways to spend one's time. Art causes you to think deeply and consider things and a unique way. We are all minds inside of bodies. Our mind is really the only important thing as far as ourselves goes. I feel that creativity in general is a basic need of my mind. I feel that being creative and expressive through art makes me a better person, and a better and faster thinker. It also leads me to finding more enjoyment in other things in life beyond art. This is how I define myself as an artist.
As a painter, two things I hate having to deal with most are floating pet hairs and tiny winged bugs. They together are the bane of my artistic life. A couple artist phrases that I find helpful to remember are 'You can only improve if you just keep trying', and, 'If it's still wet, it can be resurrected!'
