Eldora Schober Larson's Artist’s Statement
Since my early days, when matchbook covers contained offers of free lessons to the winners of an art school’s drawing contest, I have wanted to be an artist. I wanted to share all that I could see, hear, and feel around me and my understanding was that an artist could do that. If I were an artist, I would know how to express and explain the beauty and dimensions of my world.

It seemed so easy …but ‘saying’ didn’t make it so. I began to paint; studying and experimenting with canvas, paper, oils, acrylics, and watercolors in an effort to find the best way to truly express what I know and what I feel. I want to help others see the essence of a simple object, the depth of color and dimensions of a landscape, the whimsy of everyday items standing side by side. This desire to share has been the driving force with me as I’ve worked to perfect my art. Invoking even a small emotional response to a piece of art is a powerful experience and leaves a desire to create even more. I’ve painted for many years; only in recent times have I dared to call myself an artist.

My art education through matchbook contests? I drew and erased and finally had a close facsimile of the art school’s cartoon. The character was Snuffy Smith, I believe. I mailed my version off to the school and, in return, they offered me a few free lessons and a ‘discount’ on the rest of the course. My dad let me know these contests were not for 12 year old kids to enter on their own. Ah, me. If only I had known then that cartoonist Charles M. Schultz’ mother had enrolled him in the same program a few years earlier!

Eldora Schober Larson was born in West Salem, Wisconsin; graduated WSHS –1957. Now a resident of Hudson, Wisconsin, she began painting in 1965 and has worked with oils, acrylics,and watercolors..

Through the years, as she and her family lived in many different parts of our country, Eldora continued her artwork and attended workshops and critique sessions. Painting in groups and individually, she was coached by the following artists--
Texas artist, Simon Michael; Artist and Gallery owner, Lorraine Cote, Minneapolis, MN; Hawaiian artist, Nancy Seymour;Water-colorist, and Lynne Baur, of Hudson, WI. Eldora is currently working in private lessons with Lynne Baur.

Larson has held one woman shows in Honolulu, HI; Minneapolis, MN, and West Salem, WI. Her paintings have been displayed in galleries and shows such as-- Victoria, Texas, Fine Arts Show; Villano's Gallery, Minneapolis, MN; Viterbo College, La Crosse, WI; Members Shows at The Phipps Gallery, Hudson, WI; Garland Days, West Salem, WI; Oktoberfest Art Show, La Crosse, WI;

--Honorable Mention at juried Victoria, TX, Fine Arts Show.
--Third at Oktoberfest Art Show, La Crosse, Wisconsin.
--FAV 15% Canvoo BoldBrush Art Contest, July 2010.

Eldora maintains two Websites of her artwork: www.eldoralarson.com and provides a free, weekly, email newsletter—E”s eNotes—to her collectors and subscribers and http://eldora-larson.artistwebsites.com/index.html where her artwork can be used to create note cards and gicle'e prints of various sizes.

In addition to her artwork, Larson has done genealogical and historical research and authored two history books—Familien Berg (in 1988) and Neshonoc—A Place Like No Other (in 1994.)
