This extraordinary young talent is quickly becoming one of the premier sports art memorabilia artists in the Pacific Northwest today. Dustinís passion for sports and art dates back to early in his childhood, growing up playing football, baseball, and basketball and drawing sports figures since he was able to pick up paintbrushes, colored pencils, and even crayons. His dedication and passion for his combinations of sports and art is depicted in many of his most recent sports art paintings and illustrations. With the right exposure, the sky literally is the limit for this local talent.
Born in a small community down in the southwest corner of Washington, (Kalama, WA) in 1981, Dustin began colored pencil illustrations and paintings at the age of 7, but family stories has said that he was picking up coloring books before starting preschool. Life has it's ways of becoming settled in with daily routines, and Dustin put aside his art to persue other interests. As of recent, being heavily influenced by sports figures from the Pacific Northwest and their dedication towards always striving to perfect the gifted natural talents given to them, Dustin has picked back up his brushes and has refined his painting and illustration techniques over the last few years.
Dustin studied drawing and painting at Kalama Middle School and advanced art courses Kelso High School, graduating in 2000, but the talent has always been there naturally. As many gifted artists have stated, you can try and teach me art and techniques, but it is all in the mind, the ability to see colors, to pick up a brush, dab it in paint, let the paint flow, blend, and shortly the talent and skills reflects in the artwork. Dustin has stated on numerous occasions that it just happens, and he can't put a description to how he creates what he does, that it just flows out of him. One moment he is looking at a black canvas, the next it becomes a work of art.
He is currently in the process of becoming one of the premier sports artists in the Pacific Northwest, looking to work with with numerous athletes to help raise money for their charities and foundations as well as to provide inspiration to fellow artists in the communities.
Known for attention to detail, and ability to see the colors he puts to his paintings, his paintings full of rich vibrant colors and contrast, Dustin is not your standard sports artist, simply painting from a specific gametime scene. More often than not, the concepts Dustin creates portray an athlete in an action form, shocasing the athletes talents and position skillset with a combination of detailed realism and fresh inventive backgrounds. His unequalled approach and precise attention to detail has recently caught strong attention from numerous fans of the NFL, specifically those of the Seattle Seahawks, with further approaches towards the MLB, NBA, and other art communities. Dustinís incredible detail and personal reflection within his work never ceases to amaze fellow fans and art enthusiasts within the community.
Dustin's original acrylic and oil paintings, and prints, are signed and numbered by himself and set to limited reproduction runs for not only sports fans to embrace, but for fellow art enthusiasts to collect and display a piece of collectable artwork. In time with the right exposure and involvement, Dustin's goals are to have his original paintings and limited series of fine art giclee reproduction prints autographed and endorsed by the athlete.
With hard work, passion for his creations, his artwork soon will be seen in stadiums, athlete's homes, and the collections of art enthusiasts.
ARTIST STATEMENT :
(Inspired by Russell Wilson - Quarterback, Seattle Seahawks)
'i try to do everything i can to be uncommon, go against the normal,
do something nobody else has never done before... and that is where i am headed
many doubters said i can't, that you'll go no where... i listened, but now I will prove them wrong.
there is a difference between talent and skill,
god gives you talent... but you are the one who perfects your skill.
just be yourself, trust in what you believe, trust in who you are...
It is not about money, profit, or becoming famous... It is a dream come true, being myself, utilizing my talents, and doing what I enjoy and love most.'
