Dorothy Herron started her art career as an oil painter stydying under the direction of Jean Johnson at Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh. After moving to South Carolina in 1993, Dorothy began working predominately in water colors. She felt the water colors enabled her to achieve a freedom of expression and lightness that best captures the look of the low country.
