Pastels and Pencil Artworks
This gallery features my works in oil pastels, soft pastels and pencil sketches. Way back in my elementary days, I'll always be chosen by my class and teachers to join in art contests. My medium back then was simply crayons and pencils. Mostly crayolas on white cartolina. I remember the first time I won, it was 2nd place in a Reading Slogan in 2nd grade. I was so happy with the My Melody Plastic tumbler I took home. I remember, too, my teacher, Mrs. Ortiz, advising my dad that I should be given special art classes to develop my skills. It was the summer of Grade 5, I studied summer art classes with Chinese artist, Master Lim Guan. I learned to use mediums like charcoal pencils, oil pastels, soft pastels, and watercolor. I remember, too, one exercise we had was to charcoal sketch your seatmate. I was so happy, Master Lim Guan liked the portrait I did of my seatmate. However, I hated my seatmate a lot. That fat little boy sketched me looking cross eyed with a distorted nose! Every year since then, I'd be winning my way through inter schools City wide, Provincial wide, Regional wide, then in one National competition, I won and not only did I represent my school, but I represented my country, as well, in the First Asean Summit Poster Contest of 1988. Hope you enjoy looking thru my gallery.
