Dick Williams has been creating stained glass since 1983 when after twenty years of world-travel, he was inspired toward glass art. Having grown up in a family of artists, his passion within stained glass has been expressed in landscapes, seascapes, icons, animal portraiture, abstracts, and figures. His works not only represent the subject matter, but express the very nature of the heart of his subjects.
The figures, within The Living Soul series, for which he has received much acclaim, resulted from a collaboration of art with his niece, Denise Williams – she poising for the works photographed by her fiancée, and while she paints the images, Dick depicts the correlating pieces in his glass works. The results are familial in essence as the souls portrayed in the pieces are unequivocal in nature between Uncle and niece.
Dick’s work has been inspired by many contemporary artists, however, Chagall and Van Gogh have left a deep impression on his soul. “Everyone is born with a desire to create something beautiful and lasting,” Dick says. “I am greatly moved by Jean Dubuffet who stated: “I would like people to see my work as a rehabilitation of scorned values and, in any case, a work of ardent celebration.”
