Art has always been part of Desirée’s life. As a girl growing up in Holmdel, New Jersey she found inspiration in creating works of art using her family members, friends, and the beautiful Monmouth County landscape as her subject matter. She began her career as a professional artist and art educator upon moving to New York City and enrolling in Parsons School of Design where she earned her Bachelors in Business Fine Arts and then she received her Masters in Education.
Desirée taught art full time for ten years, married, and is the mother of two children. She resides, once again in Monmouth County.
Today, she is a full time artist working privately as well as for commission. She specializes in portraits, figurative works and still lifes. Her goal as an artist is to capture the essence of a moment and to make it come alive on her canvases. Her family has been her most frequent subject – they grow and change - a metaphor for her artistic process.
Setting composition is essential to the success of Desirée’s paintings. Once composed, she layers her paint on canvas using a glazing technique to create a transparent quality. Then she highlights the source of light in her work to achieve a glow and finally uses a rich warm color palette against cools for dramatic effect. She believes that these components help separate her from many artists.
