Craig Gallaway has been an artist all his life. He studied art and spiritual formation at the University of Texas at Arlington (B.F.A. in painting, 1973); Regent College in Vancouver, B.C. (M.C.S. interdisciplinary studies in art history and spiritual formation, 1978); and Emory University (Ph.D. in liturgical theology and spiritual formation, 1988). Craig worked in the publishing industry in Nashville, TN (1988 to 1995, where he and his wife, Deborah, also played their original music in the songwriters circuit) and then as professor of art and spiritual formation at Samford University (1995 to 2004). Since 2004 Craig has worked full time as an artist. Craig is primarily a painter, working in watercolor, often on large canvases up to three or more feet in dimension. His work focuses on the ordinary wonders and miracles of everyday life. His subjects include many natural forms in still life and landscape, as well as figurative works, fantasy, and spiritual themes. Craig's work has won many awards, and has been exhibited in numerous shows, museums, and exhibits including the Montgomery Museum of Fine Art, the Carnegie Center for the Visual Arts in Decatur, AL, the Wiregrass Mueseum of Art in Dothan, AL, the Museum of Natural History in Anniston, AL, the Durbin Gallery of Birmingham Southern College, Samford University, and the University of Texas at Arlington. Craig's work is also part of numerous private collections, and is represented in the Birmingham area by the Littlehouse Galleries in Homewood, AL, the Atchison Gallery in Mountain Brook, AL, and the Four Corners Gallery in Inverness. Craig and Deborah have three sons of whom they are very proud--Benjamin, Christopher, and Zachary--and a dog named Abbie who is also part of the family.
