Bruce has a passion for nature and landscape photography. In the late 1990’s while studying graphic design he began taking photography courses and found outdoor photography a wonderful way to enjoy and record outdoor experiences.
The subjects he most enjoys – landscapes and simple scenes reflect his inspiration from Elliot Porter and Ansel Adams. Favorite subjects continue to include the coastal regions of North and South Carolina, Maine and Oregon. The Columbia River Gorge area allows him to pursue another passion – windsurfing. Close to home he enjoys scenes of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Dupont Forest, the Davidson River, the French Broad River, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the quiet places of Western North Carolina.
His images have been published in Our State Magazine, The Laurel of Asheville, Southern Arts Journal, Carolina Nature Photographers Association Camera in the Wild and North Carolina Wildlife magazine. Selected images have also been used in a variety of commercial projects including electronic billboards, print ads, and brochures.
He has exhibited extensively – in Texas, at the Contemporary Museum of Art, in North Carolina at The Bluewood Gallery, the Cradle of Forestry, Transylvania Community Arts Council, the Hollingsworth Building in Brevard, as a participant in exhibits of the Southern Appalachian Photographers Guild at Biltmore House and Gallery 86 in Waynesville, NC.
