BRAD HVOLBECK
Brad Hvolbeck, born in Connecticut on September 5, 1970, knew his destiny by the age
of five. It was at that time in his life that he attended the Ringling Brother’s Circus, with
his father, in Madison Square Garden, New York. During the performance he turned to
his dad and said, “I want to be a clown.”
When he was 18 years old, Brad started working at Club Med in the Caribbean and
Mexico, working for the first year in the “mini club” with children aged three to fifteen.
He was in charge of the talent show that was staged every week. The children worked
together in daily practice for the extravaganza that entertained the rest of the guests at the
end of the week. He worked with the kids, preparing skits and athletic games in which all
of the children participated. From the talented to the more challenged, he made each child
a part of the whole, helping them each to feel their worth in being part of a team. It was at
this point in his life that Brad first conceived his idea to host his own children’s show on
television, and to follow in the footsteps of one of his idols, Captain Kangaroo.
After a year in the “mini club,” Brad joined the circus department of Club Med, training
and teaching children trampoline, trapeze, and clown stunts/gags. He looked on this
experience as an opportunity to learn the necessary skills that would help him to realize
his dream. He also worked as an ‘animator,’ a roving entertainer. Brad dressed in three to
five different characters a day, all of his own design. He also emceed and performed each
evening in a vaudevillian type show, confirming what he already knew - he really loved
acting and entertaining.
After his years in training he went to the Clyde Beatty/Cole Brothers Circus. Despite the
Brad Hvolbeck does not have any artwork featured at this time.
