I am a prodigal son to art.
When I was younger I was really into my art; always drawing from the time that I could hold a pencil. I had grand aspirations of being a professional artist, even pulling a brief stint as an amateur tattoo artist in the wilder days of my youth. But as I grew into adulthood the distractions of family life and career took me away from art.
Fast forward a decade or so, and I found myself deployed to Iraqi in some really touch-and-go situations. There I was forced to seriously reevaluate the important things in my life. Through a war zone epiphany I came to realized that art was an extremely important part of me and I vowed that if I made it back to the real world I would never neglect my talents again.
Since returning I have submerged myself in art. It’s been a perfect form of therapeutic release and my greatest catalyst to emotional healing.
I tend to paint and draw the things that make me happy, as well as those subjects that push and challenge my technical skills.
At this time my primary subject is wildlife, done in a style that leans toward realism or hyper-realism. The mediums and painting styles that I use are constantly evolving, and my artwork is still transitioning. I can’t wait to see where this new journey will take me.
Lately I have been dabbling more in portraiture. I am fascinated by the powerful emotions that can be channeled in a good portrait and the connection that forms between the subject and the artist. There’s something magical and maddeningly complex about trying to capture those illusive personal traits that define a subject, whether that be a giggling little toddler or a grizzled old tiger.
I have always been an avid lover of nature and wildlife. I am often found haunting the forests and fields of the southern states that I call home. I am active in organizations for wildlife education and conservation programs, as well as wilderness and wetlands protection. My goal is to share my love and awe of nature and wildlife with others through my artwork. In an attempt to have my artistic talents help the majestic muses that inspire me, I donate a portion of the revenues that I receive from my wildlife series to various conservation groups to help in their nature education and advocacy programs.
Thanks for you interest. - Brad
