Betsy Jones is an American artist from Pittsburgh, PA. She has been drawing most of her life, and studied the fine arts throughout high school and while attending the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. It was in these courses she focused on (and fell in love with) art history, compositional rules (so as to break them later!), and the art of critique.
Working primarily in Colored Pencil, Acrylic Paint, Mixed Media, and Pen & Ink, her work is usually abstract art and is inspired by color, texture, and nature. For Betsy, the most interesting subject is the color itself and the dialogue and impact color shares with the viewer. Her ultimate goal as an artist is to make people stop – just stop for a moment. In this day of instant gratification, one of the greatest honors an artist can have is for someone to stop and really take a moment, for himself as well as for the appreciation of the art.
Currently, Betsy is the Public Relations Director of the Colored Pencil Society of America, and moderator of the Colored Pencil Artists and Lovers on Facebook group. She has also been writing for the Colored Pencil Magazine this year, and has been getting involved with The Colored Pencil Project, a wonderful group of artists who bring supplies and workshops to children in underrepresented countries around the world.
