Painting is poetry, that is seen rather than felt.
Poetry is painting, that is felt rather than seen.
By Leonardo da Vinci
Always having a passion for art, never finding the time, finally stepped up to the challenge, after retirement, in 2004.
Born and raised in San Francisco, California. Second generation on my Italian side, many generations on my Spanish side, families
having been here, when it was Mexico, from the Los Angeles area, several generations from the Irish side, who settled and ranched in Santa Clara and Santa Margarita counties, Calif. My two children, were born in San Francisco and raised in Sonoma, California.
As a child and attending a parochial school, classes in art were not provided. It was all about the 3 R's. Yet, I do remember in the
sixth grade, around Christmas time, a nun, asking all of us to participate in an Art Contest, a Christmas theme. Won the contest! Yet, it still didn't instill me to continue with my new found talent. . In high school, doodled from time to time, then stopped, as my interests went else-
where. Art would from time to time, flash into my mind or would see sceneries and say to myself, 'self, would love to be able to paint those beautiful sights/sites.' Over the course of years, had the desire, just no time or couldn't set aside time, mainly because of family and business.
Instead, raised a family, my husband and I were self-employed, then retired. That's a lot of years, that went by to finally realize, I would like to study.
My goal was to study with Artists who had attained Fine Art Degrees, as this enabled me to learn as much as possible in the shortest amount of time and still learning. Those artist are: Caroline Bloom, Susan Cornelius, 'Robert Dvorak, Maury Rapp, latter two at Santa Rosa J.C.' In between all teachers, self taught. For 16 months, studied with renowned local artist and Watercolorist, Allis Teagarden. The past 3 years, also studied with Garay Morgan, whom was excellent in his fields of 'Pastel, Charcoal, Pencil and Murals.
Most recently, had the pleasure of studying, several years with Ginny Wilson, widely known for her Pastel and Watercolor works, excellent in her field. When I am home in No. California, always make it a point to visit with Ginny for a few refresher points. She is the best, her patience abounds, is kindly and we all love her.
My heartfelt thanks to all of them for guiding me this far in my endeavors.
In 2007 and 2008, received scholarship awards from the National Council of Parks and Recreation. In 2007, 2008 and 2009 received awards from the Sonoma County Fair and Harvest Fair. Most recently, 2011, received awards from the Cloverdale Citrus Fair, Sonoma County on Grapes and Pears and El Limon.
To all my family and friends, thank-you for your wonderful support.
As an afterthought, wish to acknowledge that I am an amateur photographer. Started several years ago, while traveling, to fill my catalog with pictures that I could use for future pastel paintings.
