Vanishing Images
I have long had a fascination with history. We merely borrow the land we live upon for the time that we are here, and then pass it on to those that follow, just as we inherited it from those that came before us. Traces of our habitation are left behind, found in abandoned buildings that disintegrate into the earth, discarded tools, cookware, and endless other evidence that someone, in either the near or distant past, once called the land we now stand upon their home. I am currently exploring the effects I can achieve by painting several separate watercolor paintings, scanning all of them into my computer, and then overlaying one painting over the other. Next, I use Adobe Photoshop to fade the top layer, giving the impression that an object is disappearing. This technique has enabled me to express my perception of and fascination with history, and those that have come before us.
