~About the Artist~

I discovered at a very young age that by capturing the expressions of people, I was not only able to express myself but I could allow others to connect with me. I stayed passionate with this mindset for most of my life, exploring different routes of art from oil painting, watercolors, mixed medium, photography, digital art, writing, to music and dance. After going through many art phases, I have simplified my imagery with less props to get a simple yet significant point across to the viewer. In the portraits that I paint, I especially want you, the viewer, to reconnect with a special memory or feeling that has always been in you. I also want to help you to discover new possibilities and outlooks just as so many other artists have inspired me. Some of my backdrops may seem a little surreal or over the top, but some of our most priceless memories can seem enchanting, magical, and even surreal at times. As Pablo Picasso put it, 'Art is a lie that makes you realize the truth.'

The illustrative and decorative art that I do is also just as important and significant to me. Sometimes these paintings are transitions into a bigger painting that I have in store. Fashion illustration reminds me to keep things simple with fast and bold strokes, creating lots of energy and movement. Sometimes I just need some good luck and new energy to bring into my home as a practice of Feng Shui, which leads me to painting animals and other symbolic imagery, thus reminding me to reflect on the beauty that surrounds me. I also hope to bring good energy into your home, as well.

A brief background of Angelique Buman:

-Born 1982; Raised in Erie, Pennsylvania.
-Other cities resided include Edinboro, PA, Quebec City, QC, Hillsborough, NC, and currently resides in Durham, NC.
-Received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Edinboro University; Graduated in 2005. Focuses included painting, photography, music, and especially depicting the figure through painting and drawing.
-Well recognized Erie Artist involved and supported in various art exhibitions.
-Presque Isle Gallery of Erie, Pennsylvania displays and sells Angelique Buman's original artwork ongoing.
-Volunteered years of teaching art to members of L'Arche, Erie, a worldwide group home organization.
-Currently an art teacher to children ages 3 through 6.
