Impressionism
Impressionism was a 19th century Paris art movement rebellion against established painting/art styles of the time. Among the pioneers was Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cezanne & Edgar Degas to name a few. Impressionism was named for Monet after his painting "soleil levant" ( Impression, Sunrise.) Main characteristics of impressionist paintings include small, thin, barely visible brush stroke (almost feather-like) with emphasis on accurate depiction of light in its ever subtle, varying qualities. Subject matter was ordinary everyday scenes featuring movement & unusual perspectives as an important part of the viewer's perception& experience. I am a huge fan of the genre & this gallery is homage to the masters of this romantic, documentary, often pastoral art style.
