Amar was born in British Guiana, South America. In his late-teens he ventured into the wider world-relocating to the United States; over thirty years ago he holidayed on Grand Cayman, fell in love with the Island and settled there, where he lives in George Town. He is the father of four children and a proud grandfather of six.
Amar is self taught and for as long as he can remember has been taking photographs. His early inspiration came from paintings in the traditional and modern styles. He often exhibits in the Cayman Islands.
In 2012 & 2013 Amar was awarded 2nd place for his works “Caffeine Effect” & “Stellar Eclipse” respectively, in the Conceptual Category of the Cayfest Competition hosted by the Cayman National Cultural Foundation; these two pieces can be viewed here in his Conceptual gallery.
His two dimensional collage “copy, cut, paste” was exhibited in “The Art of Assemblage” at The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands and his work “Tao Chi” in the “Panorama of Latin American” exhibition at the Contemporary Arts Gallery, Montreal, Canada, and can be viewed here in his Rust Art Gallery.
His work entitled “Change” was exhibited in the Gallery at the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman on 4th July 2013 to date and can be viewed here in his Abstract gallery.
His work has been featured prominently in almanac publications in the Cayman Islands and in private collections on Grand Cayman, U.S.A., Canada, U.K. and Italy.
You are cordially invited to view his portfolio; leave a comment and he will respond personally. If you enjoyed his work please share it with your friends.
My work is the integration of a lifetime appreciation and exposure to art, guided by intuition, instinct, observation, and personal perspective. My aim is to share my work with wide audiences.
My inspiration comes from the natural and forged world, and is influenced by the art works of the great masters and various art genres. I am drawn to the beauty in the landscape, the self-expression afforded by abstract and conceptuals, and the bare essentials of minimalism. My work is best described as eclectic
During my travels I make it a point to visit local galleries and museums; I admire the works of Monet, Matisse, Degas, Picasso, Van Gogh, and Ansel Adams to name a few.
Always scouting locations for shoots as I go about my daily tasks, I am camera-ready to capture serendipitous moments.
In the vast majority of my work I utilize natural light or whatever artificial illumination is on location; I seldom use flash but balance light and shadow in my mind’s eye, in post production.
I hope you find something to relate to in my work and appreciate your critique.

“To photograph is to hold one’s breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It’s at that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy.” ~Henri Cartier-Bresson
