This is an image of an oil painting of white lotuses from my Florals series. I find aquatic plants fascinating - it's at the same time uplifting and relaxing to view a combination of water and flowers, particularly in a pond, lake or domestic water garden. These beauties were at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Illinois, in Midwest America.

The white or pink lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) is native to tropical Asia and Queensland, Australia. The yellow lotus (Nelumbo lutea) is native to SE USA, Mexico, Honduras and the Caribbean. Nelumbo nucifera is the national flower of India and China, and is a sacred symbol to Buddhists and Hindus. The lotus is not the same flower as the water lily (Nymphaea) .
