Here is my oil painting of a Lackawanna Railroad tug at work in New York Harbor.
The point of view is as if riding in a small boat, perilously close to the oncoming tug and car float.

I am an American artist who specializes in transportation subjects. I am retired after a 34 year career in the freight railroad industry, so I am familiar with my favorite subject matter. My objective is to capture the essence of a scene or a machine, but without distracting detail. In many of the paintings, I have worked to create a sense of motion. The paintings are created using traditional drawing and painting techniques, and a variety of high quality oil paints, brushes and other tools, including the painting knife. My process is as follows: I begin by making several pencil sketches from different angles and distances.
