I bought this in the greeting card form. I have been purchasing cards from Fine Art America for two or three years. Covid might have been some of the reason for looking for cards on the internet. Shops were closed. The main reason I buy cards from FAA is because I got tired of looking for cards at the usual card shops. I could find cards (sometimes) that looked good on the outside but the verses were terrible or it was the other way around...terrible on the outside but maybe a decent verse inside. I pick cards from FAA that fit with the occasion. I figure I can write something on the inside as good as any card company could. I wouldn't buy these cards if I didn't think they were wonderful. The cards are beautiful and excellent quality and the envelopes are equality as good. I am glad I can make a copy of what I've bought so I can keep track of who gets what card. I don't want to send the same card to someone twice. In this case, the card is going to someone for Mother's Day.

This cute little guy, along with a couple dozen or so of his little feathered friends, lived in a glassed enclosure at Piqua Manor Nursing Home where my Mom spent the last few weeks of her life. There were many times when I'd push her in her wheelchair down to the lobby to see these gorgeous birds....just to see her smile one more time.

I’ve enjoyed art in one form or another since I was old enough to pick up a crayon and scribble on a wall. As early as third grade, I began blending colors and using shade to create form. Balancing marriage, motherhood and a full time career, there was only time enough to dabble in the fine arts. My 43 years as a sign artist afforded me a daily outlet for creativity. Now that I’m retired, I want to direct my creativity towards watercolor. It’s been a real challenge for me to break away from the very technical art form of sign making but the fluidity of the watercolor medium is helping me to do that. My subject matter is varied and my work is a unique combination of realist, impressionist and postimpressionist styles and...

Oh, you REALLY did it with this one. As always the composition is stellar. The subject is so sweet!! You should hang this where you can enjoy it daily!!
Marsha Elliott replied:
It's already hanging in our livingroom. Someone on Redbubble identified the bird as a Zebra Finch. So glad to find out what kind it is. Thanks for your kind support and wonderful comment.

Marsha, I am here for a second look and I love the way you indicated a little bit of light inside the basket perch. You really did an outstanding job on this. Bravo!
Marsha Elliott replied:
So happy this one caused you to take a second look....that's a great compliment. I wanted to have a little variegated color
Sandra Strohschein
I love your animal paintings but what really amazes me about this one is the grasses. How in the world did you do that? I suppose carefully, layer by layer. This is a case where patience pays off. Love it!
Marsha Elliott replied:
Layer by layer, yes, 6 or 7 of them...along with masking fluid....and of course, a hair dryer between layers to speed things up or it would've definitely taken forever. I just masked a few straws (covering the white of the paper, dried, added a little color, dried, masked a few more, dried, added a little more color, dried...etc....til I was where I wanted it to be. I finished the rest of the painting, then removed all mask (there was some on the bird, too) then added a little darker color here and there on top of the straw. I'd never done that before and really didn't know what I was doing or how it would even turn out, but I'm quite pleased. Thanks, Sandra, for your nice comment.
Ken Powers
Wow! I really like that basket weave! I can tell you spent a lot of time on this one. Very nicely done!
Marsha Elliott replied:
Thanks so much, Ken. I'd be dishonest in remaining silent and making you think it took forever. Not counting the sketch, this took about 3 hours to paint. The basket weave made me crazy at first and was terribly confusing, but once I carefully thought it out, everything came into focus and it was actually quite easy to do. If you're ever interested...I'll email you how it was done.
