About John Smeulders
John born in Hilversum,Holland in 1933.Painting since the age of 8. Accepted as apprentice when 13, in the studio of Frans Nijs, a well known Dutch artist. Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Laren, Holland. Arriving in Canada in 1952. Worked as a commercialartist until 1966. Became an art teacher and taught at University,College and Highschool level.Has been working as a fulltime artist since 1989. Devides his time working in Canada and Mexico. His Paintings are to be found in Canada,Europe, Russia, Australia,South America, U.S.A., China, and Mexico. Works in watercolour, oil and acrylic and sculptures in different materials.
