Beautifully simple circa 1886 still life by American rtist, naturalist and teacher Abbott Handerson Thayer (1849-1921) showing a flower floating in a copper or pewter bowl. Thayer's quietly expressive brushwork, subdued background colours and the silvery light that falls across the painting bring a touch of magic to an otherwise everyday scenario.
