This is my first purchase from Fine Art America. I had an idea in my mind of what I wanted to hang in our newly renovated master bathroom wall. Great Job, Linda ! Congrats on sale! F/L. It is a pleasure to see when words from other language are given nice meanings. There was time when people traditionally greeted others by hugging. While hugging some people used to stab others in back with knives hidden up their sleeves. People started handshaking where you give your dominant hand to other person indicating your benign intentions. Here other persons hand were not always clean and you can get infection transmitted if other person is suffering from a communicable disease. As a result the hugging and handshake tradition was replaced with namaste where you fold your both hands in front of other person showing that there is no dagger up your sleeve and you bow to others in true sense with respect. It also saves you from infection transmission if the other person's hands are not clean. Indian girls usually avoid hand shake with males saying namaste before a hand is proffered signalling that greeting is complete. Namaste is combination of two Sanskrit ( a language which like Latin is almost obsolete) words: Namoh = bowing and (H)aste = myself (me). In simplest version it means I bow to you and bowing in Southeast Asia is considered as a sign of respect, honor and reverence.
