You have to get up early if you want to get a good photo of Mesa Arch at sunrise in Canyonlands National Park's Island In The Sky district. Not just to beat the sunrise, but to get there before the throngs of other photographers arrive. I got here early enough this day to get the spot that I wanted, and it didn't end up being too crowded, maybe because it was a chilly morning in November, and not peak tourist season.

Mesa Arch is surprisingly small given how large it looks in photos. You have to get in close to be able to see the canyon below and catch the sunrise glow on the underside of the arch. This photo is a stitched composite of four photos taken to capture the entire length of the arch from the position I was in.

I'm a photographic artist based near Nashville, Tennessee. I love to travel and have been from border to border and coast to coast all across the United States. And everywhere I go, I take my camera and try to capture the many beautiful sights my home country has to offer.
