Llullo Machaco - Serpiente Verde
Llullo means green, tender and young in Quechua. In the Peruvian selva people call babies llullos. The idea expressed in this picture is that however our life unfolds and whatever our destiny might be, we are all born in absolute perfection. We are innocent when we come into the world and have no guile or deceits.
The Llullo Machaco symbolises this purity and its verdant colour is like the virgin forest; uncultivated and uncontaminated. The serpent has long been regarded as the evil that tempted Adam and Eve into eating the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge and religions have used these guilty feelings to manipulate and control us, and no good has come of it. The birds are messengers from the celestial temples and palaces seen above.
Recognized as one of the worlds great visionary artists, Pablo Amaringo was renowned for his intricate, colorful paintings inspired by his shamanic visions. A master communicator of the ayahuasca experience--where snakes, jaguars, subterranean beings, celestial palaces, aliens, and spacecraft all converge--Amaringos art presents a doorway to the transcendent worlds of ayahuasca intended for contemplation, meditation, and inspiration. Pablo Amaringo (1938-2009) trained as a curandero in the Amazon, healing himself and others from the age of ten, but retired in 1977 to become a full-time painter and art teacher at his Usko Ayar school in Pucullpa, Peru.
