Description
The Thousand Islands are not only beautiful in the summer, but also during the winter.
A Wintry view of Boldt Castle, Heart Island, St. Lawrence River, New York, USA
1,000 Islands. Taken in February looking across the frozen river from Alexandria Bay.
The Thousand Islands are a group of more than 1,800 islands in the St. Lawrence River, straddling the border of the United States and Canada. A fashionable retreat for the elite in the late 19th century, today the area is a hub for outdoor activities including boating, fishing and sightseeing. It’s home to elaborate island mansions such as the German-style Boldt Castle on Heart Island, and Singer Castle on Dark Island.

...quite fantastic Lori! Years ago, I saw this castle from a "Uncle Sam's" boat. Looks so different in winter. l/f

Absolutely a beautiful photo of the Boldt castle at night! I was wondering where you were when you took this photo, because I took photos of this castle while on a boat tour. Then I read your description. Now I want to go back here. I love this castle and the sad love story of it. I am so glad they are restoring it. F/L
