Uploading High Resolution Images to FineArtAmerica.com

In order to participate in the print-on-demand program, the first step is to upload a high-resolution image of your artwork.   What is high resolution?   In order to print at our smallest size, your uploaded image must be at least 700 pixels in either direction (height or width).   The larger your image... the better.   Larger images allow us to offer larger print sizes at better quality (see below).

We don't allow customers to print at any size they want.   Too much choice is not always a good thing - it is often overwhelming and confusing.   The smallest available print size is 8", and the sizes go up from there at 4" increments.   For example: 8", 12", 16", 20", etc...   But wait a minute, that's only one dimension.   What about the other dimension?   Please keep reading...

Your image is two-dimensional.   When comparing the height and the width of the image, there are two possibilities: the image is higher than it is wide... or the image is wider than it is high.   For printing purposes, we're concerned with the larger of the two dimensions.   In order to be able to offer a print at a certain size, the largest dimension of your image (in pixels) must meet or exceed the limits listed below:

8"

700 pixels

12"

1050 pixels

16"

1400 pixels

20"

1750 pixels

24"

2100 pixels

30"

2600 pixels

36"

3100 pixels

40"

3500 pixels

For example, lets assume that you upload an image which is 2500 pixels wide by 2000 pixels high.   In this case, your image is wider than it is high, and the largest dimension is 2500 pixels.   Therefore, you could sell prints that are up to 24" wide (refer to the table above).   For each available print width (in this example: 8", 12", 16", 20", and 24"), the height of the print will be automatically calculated in order to maintain the proportions of your image.   Again, using this example, the height of your image is 80% of the width of the image (2000 pixels / 2500 pixels).   Therefore, the height of your print must be 80% of the width of the print.   The prints for this images would be available in the following sizes:

8.0"

x

6.4"

12.0"

x

9.6"

16.0"

12.8"

20.0"

Choose the Sizes That You Want to Sell and Set Your Price for Each Size

Just because your image can be printed at a variety of sizes does not mean that you must offer it for sale at each of those sizes.   The choice is completely up to you.   Some artists don't want to sell their prints at smaller sizes, for example.   That's fine.   Once you upload your image, our website will tell you which print sizes are available based on the pixel size of your image (see explanation, above).    For each print size that is available, you get to specify how much you want to charge for that size.

You can charge $10 for an 8.0" x 6.4"... $25 for a 12.0" x 9.6"... etc.   Its completely up to you.   If you don't want to offer a particular size for sale, simply leave the price blank, and the size will not be advertised for sale.

The prices that you specify are exactly how much you will earn when the print is sold!   In fact, you can earn even more!   Please keep reading...

The Purchase Process

Once you select your sizes and specify your prices, your artwork is ready for sale!   Your artwork will be featured on the FineArtAmerica.com website, and whenever a visitor views your artwork, there will be a link indicating that the artwork is available to purchase as a print.   Click here to see an example.   When a visitor clicks on that link, he/she will then see a list of the available sizes and prices which you specified.

The visitor can choose to print your artwork on paper or canvas and can also choose to have your artwork framed, matted, and/or stretched on stretcher bars using our interactive shopping cart program!   Click here to see an example.   The interactive shopping cart is designed to help you sell your artwork... and the best part is, you earn an extra commission on any accessories (i.e. frames, mats, etc.) that are selected to go along with the print!   The current commission rate is 10% of the total accessory price.   For example, if a customer purchases one of your prints for $75 and then selects a $150 frame to go along with the print, you will earn a total of $90!   That's $75 for the print plus a $15 commision on the frame.   If the customer also selects a $25.00 mat, you would earn another $2.50.

There is no better way to offer your prints for sale!   As the artist, you get to exercise complete control over the sizes and prices of your prints.   On the other side, the customers get to control how they will present your artwork in their homes by selecting frames, mats, and other accessories!   That's exactly how it works in the "non-digital" world.

Since FineArtAmerica.com is an online business and does not need to pay for office space, utilities, etc... our print and accessory prices are extremely competitive - if not the best in the industry!   In addition to offering your prints for sale to customers, you might be interested in using FineArtAmerica.com to buy your own prints (i.e. to take to a fair, for example).   You will probably find that it is less expensive to get your prints done by FineArtAmerica.com instead of using a local print shop.   Unlike local print shops, we don't charge a setup fee or require a minimum order.   If you order one of your own prints, we will automatically subtract your print price and your accessory commission from your order total.   All you will end up paying for is the price of the paper/canvas and any accessories that you choose (minus your commission).   There is no sense in paying the higher price... you would just be paying yourself.   This is a great way to buy museum-quality prints of your own artwork... in whatever sizes you need... whenever you need them!

The Order Fulfillment Process

Once a customer has finished selecting prints and choosing accessories, its time to checkout.   Checkout occurs via a secure page on FineArtAmerica.com (SSL encrypted).   Customers can pay for their purchase using any major credit card (American Express, Mastercard, or Visa).   During the checkout process, the customer will specify the shipping address where the prints should be delivered.   FineArtAmerica.com will then calculate the applicable shipping cost and add that to the total order.   Once the customer verifies that all information is correct, the order is submitted for processing.   We then charge the customer's credit card and credit your FineArtAmerica.com account with your earnings on the sale (i.e. print price + accessory commission).

When you receive an order, an e-mail notification will be instantly e-mailed to you.   The e-mail will list the prints that were sold, the sizes of the prints, any accessories that were selected, and your earning on the sale.   At any time, you can login to your account on FineArtAmerica.com and view your complete sale history as well as your current account balance.

The customer also receives an e-mail confirming that his/her order was received and is being processed.

At this point, the production wheels are set in motion, and our staff begins the process of printing, stretching, matting, framing, glazing, protecting, boxing, and shipping!   All framed orders are shipped in heavily-protected cardboard boxes.   Print-only orders are rolled and shipped in cardboard tubes.   Most orders ship within 1 - 3 days.   All orders within the United States are shipped via UPS Ground (except Hawaii and Alaska - UPS Air).   All international orders are shipped via FedEx or USPS.   FineArtAmerica.com will ship orders to anywhere in the world.

As soon as the order ships, the customer will receive another e-mail with the tracking information.   In addition, the customer can login to his/her account on FineArtAmerica.com at any time in order to view his/her purchase history and the shipment status of each purchase.

Depending on the location of the customer, the print(s) will arrive within 1 - 5 days, and the process is complete!

Return Policy

FineArtAmerica.com offers a 30-day "no questions asked" return policy.   Customers can return their purchased prints within 30 days of the date of delivery and receive a full refund of the purchase price (minus shipping costs).   The returned items must be shipped back to FineArtAmerica.com in the original packing materials, and the customer is responsible for the return shipping fee.   Returns are coordinated by contacting support - at - fineartamerica.com.

Receiving Payment

When you sign-up to participate in the print-on-demand program, you can specify whether you want to be paid via check or PayPal.   Payments are sent on the 15th of each month for any orders that you received during the previous month.   Please note, if a customer returns one of your orders (see return policy), you will not receive payment for that order.   You can login to your control panel at any time to view a complete history or your sales and payments.

Participation Fees

In order to participate in the print-on-demand program, there is a $30 annual fee.   This is used to cover the hardware costs associated with hosting your high-resolution images on our web server.   In addition, FineArtAmerica.com will add a small markup (typically $5 - $10) to each print that is sold.   This fee is paid by the customer and in no way affects your earnings.

Since FineArtAmerica.com takes complete responsibility for customer satisfaction, one of our staff members must individually review each print-on-demand image that you upload in order verify that the image meets our quality standards.   Our staff must reject images which show any of the following characteristics: watermarks, glare from flashbulbs, visible frames, visible backgrounds, poor lighting, poor contrast, etc.   We must ensure that all images are of the highest quality... that they will print well... and that our customers will be happy with their purchases.   If one of your images is rejected, you will receive an e-mail with an explanation of why it was rejected.   At that point, all you need to do is correct the problem and upload the corrected image.   We'll then take a look at the corrected image and, hopefully, accept it.

At no time will you be asked to deal with customer complaints.   All you need to do is upload artwork and set your prices and sizes.   We will handle the rest.
